NEEKA-DRC Project 2010 Print

neeka-drc2010

DRC (Danish Refugee Council) funded project:

“"Organisation of computer courses for unaccompanied minors and other youth who are refugees or asylum seekers"”

Background Information:

In NEEKA's social centre computers were available to refugee and asylum seeker youth to use. However no structure existed for furthering their computer skills as children would often use the computers for games and entertainment. Besides entertainment it was felt that structured courses should be created to advance their practical knowledge in IT (Information Technology) as in today's world such skills are indispensable in almost all work environments.

Computer Classes: The computer classes took place 3 times a week for a 6 month period primarily with young people aged 14 - 18 though others could participate as well. Towards the end of the lessons examinations took place and if successfully passed participants received a official certificate attesting to their proficiency in basic information technology.
